Taking a regular short break is better for your business

Taking a regular break plays a vital role in success and well-being. If you would like to boost your creativity and productivity, try stepping away from your desk every now and then. Getting enough quality rest at the right times can help us become more generative and creative. When you take a short break, you will be amazed at what creativity gets generated.

Working nonstop at our business day after day can leave us mentally blocked. This kind of endless work pace is unsustainable. Nobody can be 100% productive all day. Our brains and body simply weren’t created to maintain an incredibly long work schedule. Many researchers have reported that regularly taking 'time out' to disengage from our work make us far more effective.  Our mind needs to rest to be able to function, and it shouldn't be overworked. Otherwise it'll simply burn out.  Also, burning the candle at both ends without taking a break can be harmful to our business. Working without taking a break is a bad habit that can jeopardize our business, health and the life we're envisioning. Understand this will help you see why it's so important to take several mini-breaks throughout the day.

To thrive and create a sustainable business, we need to take a step back from working in our business to strategize and to become aware of other possibilities. If we are always head-down in day-to-day responsibilities, we will not have time to set a vision for the future, to look at different strategies, to think about growth and to discover what else is truly possible for us and our business. Most of the things we need to be most fully alive never come in busyness. They grow in rest.

To make a choice to take a step back from your work is not time related. It starts with a conscious choice and a strong desire to have it be different. A different reality is available to you if you're willing to have it. You have to recognise that choosing to work nonstopat your business, day after day, is a choice, not a necessity.

There is not one right way to take a short break at work, since every business is different and every entrepreneur is unique. However, many researchers indicate that frequent, short breaks are best. We need to recharge our energy throughout the day, not just when our energy is completely depleted. The best way to refresh our energy mentally and physically is to step away and take a break. Simply getting up from the desk every hour or so, standing from a sitting position regularly, and pacing around the room while on the phone, can help the body to function effectively. These small actions of simply moving more during the day can lead to big changes. And these strategies don't require too much time, commitment, discipline or even willpower. The most valuable thing we can do for our body, our mind and our business,  is to let them rest, wander, live in the changing energy of the moment, not try to be or do anything whatever.

“Activity and rest are two vital aspects of life. To find a balance in them is a skill in itself. Wisdom is knowing when to have rest, when to have activity, and how much of each to have. Finding them in each other - activity in rest and rest in activity - is the ultimate freedom.”
